Update - KSP Conducts a Fire and Death Investigation in Owsley County

(Booneville, KY) – The Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post is continuing the investigation into a fatal fire that occurred just before 2:00 am on Wednesday, May 25, 2016, off of Old KY-11 in Owsley County.

The initial investigation indicates that Jordyn Herald, 5 years old of Booneville, died as a result of the fire at the residence. The investigation into the cause of the fire is still ongoing, and if anyone has any information related to this investigation, they are asked to contact KSP Post 7 at (859) 623-2404.

The ongoing investigation is being conducted by KSP Detectives Jesse Armstrong and Pat Alford.

(Booneville, KY) – The Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post was called just before 2:00 a.m. EDT, on Wednesday, May 25, 2016, in reference to a fire on Old KY-11 in Owsley County. The initial caller reported that a young child was unable to escape and might still be inside the residence.

After the fire was extinguished, a search of the residence was conducted, and the remains of a young girl were located. The child was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Owsley County Coroner, and will be taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort for an autopsy. The cause of the fire is unknown and the ongoing investigation is being conducted by KSP Detectives Jesse Armstrong and Pat Alford. They were assisted at the scene by KSP Personnel, Owsley County Fire Department, Owsley County Sheriff’s Office, Owsley County EMS, State Fire Marshall, and the Owsley County Coroner.
