Programs offered by the Clay County Extension Office for August 2016

♦Diabetic Support Meeting will be August 11th at 6:00 pm at the Extension Office.  We will have Tammy present to talk to us about the importance of foot care for the diabetic.  She will then measure you for shoes. 

If you are a diagnosed diabetic, you can order one pair of shoes every 12 months through this program. You can bring your doctor’s order with you or she will take care of this for you. Please call 598-2789 to let us know you will be attending. Free and open to the public.

Just Get Moving Manchester is August 15, 2016 from 5:30—7:00 pm at Rawlings & Stinson Park. Come out and play some games, old and new; activities for young and not so young individuals. Activities include: walking, hula hoop, dart game, jump rope, skip it, sack races, 3 legged race, egg race and team races. Enjoy spending the evening outdoors with family and friends. We hope to see you there. Fun! Fun! Fun! Free and open to the public.

The Clay County Extension Week will be August 16th – 18th at the EXCEL building. All entries MUST be registered on Tuesday, August 16th from 12:00 pm – 5:30 pm. Judging will be done between 9:30 am – 12:00 pm on August 17th. Exhibits will be on display and open to the public from 1-6:00 pm. Exhibits will be on display August 18th from 9 am – 5:30 pm. Exhibits must be picked up between 4-5:30 pm. All food items not picked up will be thrown away. Fruits, vegetables, foods are to be entered on white Styrofoam plates. Be sure baked food is well cooled before wrapping with clear plastic wrap (gallon size storage bags work well). Canned foods are to be exhibited in standard canning jars. In each class, 1st, 2nd, 3rd or participation ribbons will be awarded. 4-H class ribbons will be awarded using the Danish system. Labels will be provide at the time of registration. Only one entry per person per division # will be allowed. Clay County Cooperative Extension Service is not responsible for lost or damaged items.

This year we have added a Plate It Up Food Demonstration from 5:30—6:30 pm on the 18th. Alissa, Jeff and Lora will be presenting a total of 3 Plate It Up recipes for you to sample. You need to register for the Plate It Up Demonstration by calling 598-2789 or if you need more information.

The Clay County 4-H Teen Club will be meeting on August 30th at Rawlings & Stinson Park at 5:30 pm.

Homemaker Leader’s Training “Use Your Paper Passion for Decorating” will be August 31st at 10:00 am at the Extension Office.  Hazel Jackson will be teaching this activity for us.  One of the new trends is using paper for decorative items in the home. Paper decorations can add artful whimsy to interiors and are inexpensive.  We will experiment with 3D paper folding projects appropriate for the holidays. Free and open to the public.  Call 598-2789 to register.
