Suspicious vehicle complaint lands man in LCDC

Laurel County, KY - Sheriff John Root is reporting that: in deputy Josh Scott arrested Shawn Barnes 35 of Sibert Rd., London on Tuesday morning October 11, 2016 at approximately 9:17 AM.

The arrest occurred on Blakely subdivision Road approximately 2/10 mile west of London after deputy Scott was dispatched to a suspicious vehicle complaint there. When deputy Scott arrived at the scene he located a silver colored Chevrolet S-10 pickup with the driver of the vehicle apparently passed out under the wheel – keys in the ignition.

After several attempts to awaken the driver an investigation was conducted where the subject was determined to be under the influence. Deputy Scott also located this subject in possession of a plastic baggie containing several pills believed to be Clonazepam, and Gabapentin, along with snorting straws and a pipe.

Shawn Barnes was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence – first offense; prescription controlled substances not in proper containers – second offense; possession of drug paraphernalia; possession of a controlled substance – third-degree; operating on suspended or revoked operators license; instructional permit violations; and failure of owner to maintain required insurance – first offense.

Shawn Barnes was also charged on a Kentucky parole violation warrant charging absconding parole supervision; failure to complete treatment for substance abuse; and failure to report to parole officer as directed regarding a conviction in Laurel Circuit Court on a charge of trafficking in a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – methamphetamine.

This subject is was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
