FRANKFORT, KY – Senate Bill 79, the Safe at Home Act to protect domestic violence survivors, took effect Thursday. Sponsored by Senator Julie Raque Adams (R-Louisville), this law bolsters the Secretary of State’s Address Confidentiality Program by allowing those fleeing domestic abuse to shield their new addresses from public record without having to obtain a court order, and to mask their addresses on publicly available government records, beyond just the voter rolls.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency seized and held his truck for over two years never granting him a hearing to fight to get his vehicle back or justifying the seizure. ARLINGTON, VA —Today, June 29, 2023, two victims of civil forfeiture joined with the Institute for Justice (IJ) to file an amicus brief in a case before the United States Supreme Court, urging the court to rule that forfeiture victims have a right to a prompt hearing after police seize their property. Civil forfeiture is the system through which law enforcement can take an individual’s property without ever charging them with a crime.

On Wednesday, June 28, 2023, Governor Janet Mills announced her Administration is issuing $25 million to Maine hospitals to address ongoing COVID-19-related challenges such as workforce recruitment and retention. This is the second such payment the Maine Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) has made to hospitals in this Fiscal Year, following a $25 million supplemental payment in October 2022.
