Texting while driving and not wearing a seatbelt in London Ky. lands man behind bars for serious offenses

LONDON, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's K-9 Deputy Jake Miller arrested Marcus S. Woods age 47 of Johnson Rd., London on Monday morning August 10, 2020 at approximately 10:47 AM.

The arrest occurred on KY 192 in London after this subject was observed driving on East 4th St. in a white Cadillac Escalade and observed texting while driving and not wearing a seatbelt.

A traffic stop was conducted where it was learned that the driver was operating on a suspended operator's license.

During the traffic stop the driver was determined to be under the influence and was found in possession of:

  • Suspected Methamphetamine
  • Scales
  • A syringe
  • Suspected Marijuana

In addition, Deputy Miller located a handgun in the vehicle and learned that the driver was a convicted felon.

Marcus Woods was charged with:

  • Driving a motor vehicle using a handheld mobile telephone
  • Failure to wear seatbelts
  • Operating a motor vehicle under the influence- first offense
  • Operating on suspended or revoked operator's license
  • Possession of a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – Methamphetamine
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Possession of a handgun by a convicted felon
  • Possession of Marijuana

This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
