Drug Trafficking Arrests Near an Elementary School in Kentucky

LONDON, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Dylan Messer along with Major Chuck Johnson and Sgt. Brett Reeves arrested two individuals on Thursday morning December 31, 2020 at approximately 8:59 AM.

The arrests occurred at a business off Barbourville Road approximately 7 miles South of London after deputies were dispatched to a complaint of individuals possibly intoxicated there.

Upon arrival at the scene deputies located two individuals and conducted an investigation determining that they were under the influence.

In addition the two individuals were found in possession of:

  • A large amount of suspected Methamphetamine
  • Suboxone,
  • Scales
  • A glass pipe

Deputies also noted that the individuals were within 1000 feet of an elementary school.

The two arrested individuals were identified as:

Kelly L. Gray age 34 of KY 229, Barbourville, KY charged with:

  • Trafficking in a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – Methamphetamine
  • Trafficking in a controlled substance – second-degree – first offense
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Trafficking in a controlled substance within 1000 feet of a school
  • Public intoxication – Controlled substances

Branden W. Jones age 26 of Sled Road, Barbourville, KY charged with:

  • Trafficking in a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – Methamphetamine
  • Trafficking in a controlled substance – second-degree – first offense
  • Possession of Drug paraphernalia
  • Trafficking in a controlled substance within 1000 feet of a school
  • Public intoxication – Controlled substances

These two individuals were lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
