Methamphetamine Seized on U.S. 27 in Pulaski County, Kentucky and Two Charged with Drug Trafficking

SOMERSET, KY - Sheriff Greg Speck is reporting that on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 two people were arrested following a traffic stop by Deputy Tan Hudson on US 27 in Somerset, Kentucky.

Deputy Hudson stopped a 2019 Nissan Altima being driven by a Marcus Smith who had a suspended driver’s license. Deputy Hudson also identified Scott Nevels in the car as well.

Deputy Hudson’s investigation into the stop led to a search of the vehicle.

Discovered during the search were approximately 85 grams of suspected Methamphetamine along with digital scales that had what appeared to have residue on it from illegal drugs along with other digital scales in the vehicle. Deputy Hudson also located multiple needles in the vehicle.

Based on Deputy Hudson’s investigation both men were arrested and transported to the Pulaski County Detention Center and lodged.

Marcus Floyd Smith, age 49 of Brook Drive in Liberty Kentucky was driving and was charged with:

  • Operating a Motor Vehicle on a Suspended or Revoked Operator’s License
  • Trafficking in Controlled Substance, 1st Degree, 1st Off - (Greater than or = 2 Grams Methamphetamine)
  • Drug Paraphernalia – Buy Possess

Scotty Lee Nevels, age 41 of Chandler Street in Somerset, Kentucky was charged with:

  • Trafficking in Controlled Substance, 1st Degree, 1st Off - (Greater than or = 2 Grams Methamphetamine)
  • Drug Paraphernalia – Buy Possess
