Subject in Speeding Vehicle that fled Police found to be Wanted when located behind a Business off Kentucky 770 in Laurel County

LONDON, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Deputy James Fox arrested Duncan Groenewald age 24 of London early Thursday morning March 9, 2023 at approximately 2:18 AM.

The arrest occurred behind a business off KY 770 in southern Laurel County after Deputy Fox attempted to stop a black colored GMC Canyon driving 20 mph over the speed limit.

When Deputy Fox activated his emergency equipment the vehicle failed to stop speeding up and was found parked behind a closed business with the vehicle’s head lights off.

Deputy Fox conducted an investigation on the driver who exited from the passenger seat stating he was not driving. It was determined that the driver was wanted on an outstanding warrant.

Duncan Groenewald was charged with:

  • Speeding 20 mph over the limit
  • No operator's license
  • Reckless driving
  • Fleeing or evading police – first-degree – motor vehicle

In addition, this subject was charged on a Laurel District Court bench warrant of arrest charging failure to appear in court on charges of:

  • Operating a motor vehicle under the influence – first offense
  • Possession of open alcoholic beverage container in motor vehicle prohibited

This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
