Mt Vernon, Ky. - "Mitch" McConnell the senior United States Senator was in Southeast Kentucky today making stops in Mt. Vernon and Somerset . A member of the Republican Party, he has been the Majority Leader of the Senate since January 3, 2015. He is the 15th Senate Republican Leader and the second Kentuckian to lead his party in the Senate. He is also the longest serving U.S. Senator in Kentucky history.
Senator McConnell was the guest speaker at a luncheon hosted by the Rockcastle County Kiwanis & Chamber of Commerce before traveling on to Somerset to attend a tribute ceremony honoring the late U.S.Senator from Kentucky John Sherman Cooper.
