(LONDON, KY.) – On Tuesday, December 08, 2015 at approximately 3:00 PM, Kentucky State Police Post 11, London received a call from the McCreary County Sheriff’s Office in reference to an officer- involved shooting on Day Ridge Road in McCreary County.
Upon arrival, KSP Detective Billy Correll learned that the Sheriff’s Office had received a complaint about Anthony C. Murphy, 46, of Whitley City brandishing a firearm and causing a disturbance. The McCreary County Sheriff and two (2) Deputies responded to the call. Upon their arrival, they observed Murphy running from his residence. Murphy then turned toward officers and pointed a firearm in their direction. Officers then fired at Murphy, striking him.
Murphy was treated at the scene by McCreary County EMS and later flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center where he is being treated for his injuries.
No officers were injured during the incident.
The investigation is continuing by Detective Correll. He was assisted at the scene by Troopers from Post 11 and McCreary County EMS.
