(LONDON, KY.) – On Tuesday, December 15, 2015, at approximately 1:15 PM, Kentucky State Police Post 11, London, received a report of a four-vehicle fatal traffic crash on the northbound side of Interstate-75 near the 63 mile marker in Rockcastle County.
Upon investigation, Traffic Crash Reconstructionist Trooper Delzie Kelly determined that a 2014 Freightliner semi-truck operated by Herbert E. Richardson, 61, of Indianapolis, IN, was traveling northbound when he struck a 2013 Dodge Caravan in the rear which was also traveling northbound being operated by Stephen G. Greene, 69, of Ashland, KY.
The impact caused Green’s vehicle to strike a 2011 Freightliner semi-truck in the rear being operated by Brandon M. Sistrunk, 40, of Kalamazoo, MI. After the initial impact, Richardson’s semi traveled off the roadway onto the right shoulder and continued northbound and struck a fourth vehicle, a 2012 Volvo semi-truck being operated by Paul A. Leechford, 26, of Fuquay Varina, NC.
Greene, the operator of the Dodge Caravan, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Rockcastle County Coroner’s Office. His passenger, Jonathan W. Groves, 24, of Grayson, KY, was flown from the scene to the University of Kentucky Medical Center where he is receiving treatment for his injuries and listed in critical condition.
Leechford, was transported from the scene to the Rockcastle County Regional Hospital where he was treated and released.
Trooper Kelly is continuing the investigation and was assisted at the scene by Troopers from Post 11, Kentucky State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officers, Mount Vernon Police Department, Rockcastle County Sheriff’s Office, Rockcastle County EMS and Rockcastle County Fire Rescue.
