Husband and wife facing theft and other various charges - Laurel County

Laurel County, KY - Sheriff John Root is reporting that Deputy Kyle Gray along with Sgt. Robbie Grimes arrested two individuals at Walmart near Corbin in southern Laurel County on Wednesday afternoon, February 3rd, 2016, at approximately 3:10 PM.

The arrest occurred after deputies were dispatched to a shoplifting complaint there and upon arrival at the scene encountered a male subject outside Walmart who was apparently running from Walmart's loss prevention team attempting to flee the store after an attempt by loss prevention was made to detain the subject.  The male subject had tripped and fell as he ran out of the store. Following a short scuffle with deputies, the male subject was taken into custody.

A second subject who was the wife of the male subject was also arrested. This subject was allegedly observed attempting to unlawfully remove items from the store without paying. The female subject had previously been advised to not be back on Walmart property.  In addition, the female subject was determined to be under the influence of drugs.

Arrested was Robert Barnes, Jr, age 46, of Reams Ln., London, charged with theft by unlawful taking – shoplifting; robbery – second degree; resisting arrest; criminal mischief – third-degree; criminal trespassing – second degree; and disorderly conduct – second degree.

Also arrested was Penny Barnes, age 41, of Barton Mill Rd., Corbin, charged with theft by unlawful taking – shoplifting; criminal trespassing – third-degree; and public intoxication – controlled substances.
