UPDATE - Attempted Homicide Investigation / Clay County


(LONDON, KY.) – On Saturday, April 30, 2016, at approximately 12:36 AM, Kentucky State Police Post 11, London was requested by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office to investigate a shooting to which they had responded to on Skull Branch Road in Clay County.

Upon arrival, KSP Detectives determined that Samuel Cornett, 52, shot his girlfriend Alisha G. Tye, 35, both of Manchester during a domestic dispute.

Further investigation revealed that the victim fled to a neighbor’s residence to get away from her boyfriend. Cornett then went to that neighboring residence and forced his way inside. Once he located the victim he fired several shots striking her. The victim was flown from the scene to the University of Kentucky Medical Center where she is listed in critical condition.

Cornett was located and arrested a short time later and lodged in the Clay County Detention on the charges of : 5 counts of Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree, Attempted Murder ( Domestic Violence ), Assault 1st Degree and Burglary 1st Degree.

The investigation is continuing by Detective Willie Cowan. He was assisted at the scene by Troopers from Post 11, Clay County Sheriff’s Office and Clay County EMS.

UPDATE:

According to a published WYMT News report as well as posts being made via social media the shooting victim Alisha G. Tye, 35 has passed away.

Also, according to Clay County Detention Center records, the accused shooter Samuel Cornett, 52 is being held on a $750,000.00 CASH bond charged with:

  • Burglary 1st Degree
  • Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree
  • Murder - Domestic Violence
  • Assault 1st Degree
