Speech urges action this session to support education progress, improve tax climate

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear exhorted legislators in his seventh State of the Commonwealth address Tuesday to ignore the lure of partisan politics and continue collaborating with him on improving the state’s business climate in two key areas: strengthening Kentucky’s future workforce by investing in education and creating a healthier population, and modernizing the tax code to make the state more competitive.

A statewide campaign launched this week urges full-time college students to finish college faster by completing a full 15-credit schedule each semester, or 30 credits a year, the standard course load for on-time graduation.

Public Health Urges Vaccination for Kentuckians

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Kentucky Department for Public Health (DPH) officials reported to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) this week that the influenza (flu) activity level in the state has increased from regional to widespread.

Attorney General Jack Conway has announced that more than $32 million recovered in settlements with two pharmaceutical companies will be used throughout Kentucky to expand substance abuse treatment, including opiate addictions.
